US mother wins lawsuit over bagel →

This news story was a real WTF moment for me — do US hospitals really routinely drug test mothers and take their babies away if the test is positive?

If so, I wish the plaintiff had gotten an even larger settlement, something truly punitive, to discourage so-called health care institutions (which have apparently transformed themselves into snitches for the snoop-state) from this practice.

Of course, it’s not just the hospital, but also the child welfare officials in Pennsylvania (specifically, Lawrence County Children and Youth Services) who pounced on the test result as a pretext to take a new-born from its family. What is wrong with these people?

How weird does life get in the US? The answer: pretty damn weird.
