Traditional Hardanger fiddles from the Hardanger Folk Museum in Utne, Norway. The Hardanger fiddle has a second set of four strings below the main strings that vibrate in sympathy with the bowed strings, which results in even a stronger set of overtones than a four-stringed violin, which is already known for its rich tone color because of its complex overtone series.
